Lice eggs called nits hatch within 1 to 2 weeks

Lice eggs called nits hatch within 1 to 2 weeks after they're laid in the head of a child. After hatching, the remaining shell looks white and continues to be firmly attached to the hair shaft, and this is the phase when it's easiest to mark them, as the hair is growing longer and the egg shell is moving further away from the scalp.
